Edward Goldman

Family friend and Host, Art Talk

Knowing Ruth and being friends with her has been a privilege and labor of love for me since we first met in the early 80s, when she interviewed me, along with a group of Jewish refugees, who had recently emigrated from the Soviet Union. She was asking us tough questions, but somehow I survived arguing with her. And that's how we became friends.

I got to know so much about Los Angeles thanks to Ruth...and I did my best to take her to the galleries and museums to see important art exhibitions.

I remember how once she said: "Hmm, Edward, you have a funny way of talking about art. I think you should try to do it on the radio." I told her that she was crazy to suggest it, considering my far from perfect English. And that was the moment she said: "You have a message that my audience might want to hear. Perfection of delivery is not an issue.” And that's how my weekly Art Talk program was born.

Knowing of my long friendship with Ruth, a number of friends and listeners expressed their condolences. Let me share this one with you:

“KCRW and NPR would not be what they are today if not for this woman's incredible talents, foresight and determination. What a better and more informed world we live in today because of Ruth Seymour. May she rest in peace in our minds and souls.”
