Ruth and Celia Hirschman This memorial website is a tribute to my mother, Ruth Seymour (aka Ruth Hirschman) - Radio station manager, innovator, producer, mother, wife, friend and inveterate public radio visionary.

Ruth died December 22, 2023 at home in Santa Monica, California. I took care of her for the last 18 months of her life.  It was a privilege and an honor for me. It helped me understand so much more about her.

I created this site after discussion with many of her close friends, who wanted to share stories about how Ruth inspired them. From those conversations, the initial 50 remembrances came. And there is still room for more remembrances, so if you want to add yours, please use the Add Remembrance tab above.

Ruth was a complex and dynamic person who transformed her life into serving the public radio medium, so it mattered, for art, culture and history.

I want to thank Tom Vinetz, Sydney Thornbury, and Sarah Spitz for all their hard work, encouragement and inspiration, as well as all of the other contributors of RememberingRuth.com. Special thanks to Philip Dunn and Anil Dewan for their help with this site. Thank you to Melanie Makaiwi, Phil Richards and Jennifer Ferro at KCRW. Also thanks to Cindy Vance, Rory Mitchell, Marc Goldstein, Ariana Morgenstern, Connie Alvarez, Jason Groman, Theo Salef, Dailyn Hodges, Pamela Bonslater, Kat Nelson, Margaret Landreau, and Anita Getzler for their generosity of spirit. Thank you to Judy, Ester and Stephany at Skirball Hospice.
